| CLASS ROOM NEWS From Mrs. Dillow: The one word that comes to my mind when I think about our first month of school is excitement. God is blessing our school in some amazing ways. Here are just a few of the ways. We added the 6th grade. The PTF has been working on redecorating our cafeteria with a Kentucky history theme. We will be receiving new computers for our computer lab. We will have music classes for K5-6th grade this year. We will be having a talented/gifted program to meet the needs of those students who need to be challenged. Our PTF has many fantastic ideas to update our playground and school. The PTF is planning a brand new festival called “Harvest Jubilee” for October. We have been listening to our parents to see how we can improve our school together. We have always enjoyed the family atmosphere here at TCA and want to partner with you in your child’s education. I encourage you to become involved at TCA. Some of the ways you can become involved are to attend PTF meetings, volunteer for fundraisers, volunteer in the lunchroom, help with classroom, parties, etc. The greatest thing you can do for the school is to pray for the students, teachers, and administration. I can say from experience that working with these children is quite a blessing. I want to thank all those volunteers who have painted, served refreshments, cleaned, etc. We really appreciate all that you do! May God bless you. In His Love, Mrs. Dillow Mrs. Nolan Media Specialist/Computers Our students are enjoying computer class! We will be learning about research sites and also take some virtual field trips in September. We are also excited about getting new computers very soon! Students at TCA are great readers! Once a week they visit the library to check out a book, read, and relax. Have you read a good book lately? Ms. Karen Matney: Remember that tuition is due on the 1st of each month. K3 - Mrs. Jennifer: K3 is off to a great start! We have become acquainted with three animal alphebet friends: Alexander Alligator, Betsy Bee, and Connie Cow. We can count to ten and to five in Spanish! We are learning color names in English and Spanish. We know red is rojo, and green is verde! We are learning that blue is azul. Everyone in our class has learned the first Bible verse for the year (Genesis 1:1), and we are working on a new one already: "All things were made by Him" John 1:3. We have been talking about Creation, and we are learning about Adam and Eve, Noah and the Ark, and others from Genesis. The boys and girls in K3 are really smart! It's going to be a wonderful year. K4 - Mrs. Lori & Mrs. Gala : We are having a wonderful time in K4! We have been learning about the creation of the great things God has given us. We are starting our ABC lessons with the vowels by writing, saying, recognizing, and learning the sign language for I, U, & O. Our math unit will be covering 1-3 this month and we will have a special song for each number. We have also been learning how to play several educational games through individual computer time. We are also enjoying daily art, dramatic play, science, and sand/water centers with an ocean theme. We are looking forward to a great year! K5 - Mrs. Tammy: Wow! We are hard at work with vowels and all consonants. (V & Q are tricky.) In Numbers, we are doing missing numbers writing 1-20 and beginning our 1 addition family. We have learned our color words: red, blue, yellow, green, and purple. We have learned our number words: one, two, three, four, five, and six. We are having computer class with Mrs. Nolan and music with Mrs. Alley. We are so excited about this year! First/Second - Mrs. Hatfield: First and second grades have been working very hard. One of our August highlights was the surprise visit from the Statue of Liberty to our classroom. This tied in with our study about our country, flag, and community. During the month of September our class will continue studying phonics and practice reading aloud. Since finishing our picture dictionaries, the next vocabulary building project book will be rhyming words. Furthermore, in math class, we will be working on addition and place value using straws. We will use socks to study even and odd numbers. In science, we will “hatch” out another mystery egg. In Bible, we will study the ABC’s of Salvation, Abraham, and some more of the miracles of Jesus. Third/Fourth - Mrs. Bonnie: Third and fourth grades are starting the year out great. Fourth grade is reviewing cursive letters, kinds of sentences, and how to grow spiritually. We are enjoying our reading book, Salute to Courage, and our spelling words are very challenging. Third grade is working hard on our cursive writing form, talking about different kinds of sentences, and our spiritual growth. Third grade is studying multiplication tables 0-4. In History, we are studying Christopher Columbus and John Smith. Mrs. Alley is teaching 3rd & 4th grades the dulcimer. Fifth/Sixth - Mrs. Alley: We have had a good start to the year. Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade went to the State Fair in Louisville, Ky on the 20th of August. We all had a great time. There were some very interesting animals. We went through a diseased colon and saw art projects that gave us ideas for projects this year. The “ugly lamp” contest and the Kids Biz shows were our favorites. In reading, we are reading the novel, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. In math, we have reviewed multiplication and division. Fourth grade has begun U.S. History and 5th/6th grades are studying World History. We are studying plants in science. ********************************************************************************************** We are all looking forward to a great year! Check back to join in on the fun and exciting things our students will be doing this year! We will continue updating the class room news! | |
